No, "Acting Irish" is not a drinking sport. It's a theater festival. This year the Irish Players of Rochester host the Acting Irish International Theater Festival (AIITF). For five days, community theater groups from the United States, Canada, and Ireland will perform nine full-length productions on Geva's Nextstage.

The free opening reception kicks off Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m. the local hosts begin the festival with their production of "The Hostage" by Brendan Behan. The festival continues through Saturday, May 17, with performances at 2 and 8 p.m. daily. Single tickets cost $20, while $135 will buy you a festival pass to all nine shows.

Geva is located at 75 Woodbury Boulevard. Call the box office at 232-GEVA for reservations and visit gevatheatrecenter.org for more information.
