Re: “DiNapoli's report on school safety raises serious questions

Attention teachers: please post what really goes on in our schools. We need to start getting real conversations going. We can't wait for the union, or the media to expose the truth. This is not a fit for tat. There is no vehicle that is getting real, authentic info out to our community.

Re: “DiNapoli's report on school safety raises serious questions

The principals do not want their schools to look unsafe so they report nothing. Pay attention, that wasn't complex reading folks. Now let's see if any journalist in this city do a watch dog report about that?

Re: “[UPDATED] Former Police Chief James Sheppard to run for County Legislature

Jim Sheppard knows the City of Rochester very, very well indeed. Jim would be a welcome addition to City Council. He is "straight-up" and a "stand-up" person with a great sense of humor. His training in criminal justice and his tenure as Rochester Police Chief will go a long way in helping to turn around the City Of Rochester and make it a better place to live and work..

Re: “Specialists for special education

I seriously wonder how the RCSD sleeps at night. The ICOT model being eliminated by the district for the CT model REDUCES services to children. ITS a MONEY grab to cut 100 Special Education
Teachers! ICOT provides direct support for a kid in a REGULAR class 5 periods a day! The new and improved CT model that the district wants to sell will barely provide direct services 2 times a day and thats it! Follow the money and you will get answers my dear reporter!

Re: “Dinolfo is running for county executive

Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo will make a great County Executive if she stands by her promise of eliminating Land Development Corporations ( LDC'S); and, if she starts talking in a very serious manner concerning COMIDA Tax Breaks and their impact on the area... Go for it Cheryl...and when you do get elected make us proud again and find as many ways as possible to work with the City of Rochester in teamwork and financial support. Collective team work should work both ways too. So I would ask that Lovely Warren and City Council do the same by working with the County of Monroe.

Re: “Specialists for special education

Glen, it is pure BS. Most special ed teachers don't even know what the hell a consultant teacher does. Basically you ( non direct CT) runs around and asks students teachers how they are doing in said student classes. The teacher will have to juggle his/her time to meet with the core teacher. Direct(CT) means that the teacher "checks" in with the student. The teacher may have to push into multiple classes during the same period- depending on his/her schedule. It's a way to cut cost, and I am tired of how the RCSD continues to short change our kids. A teacher with no background in chemistry may be responsible in helping your child in chemistry. Excuse me, what the hell is this. Please read: I could barely skim this informercial set 'em up "article" give them garbage and dress it up in silk. How can I, a teacher who wants to give my kids what they need under this rubbish? Why do they take away what our kids desperately need time and time again? What about the older kids who were cheated out of learning how to read when they were younger? Only experienced reading teacher are able to supply these kids with intensive reading instruction that is, yes expensive, but works. Disgraceful. I wish parents would get radical and DEMAND that these educators wake up. Do a one day keep your kid home to make the point clear. Apparently the district looses money when a kid is absent. Maybe they will pay attention. It's beyond heartbreaking to see these kids, with so much faux bravado be so fearful of words. Meanwhile the board decides to give themselves a generous paycheck, when most school boards don't. CO should be a ghost town, if we can't afford to teach ALL students how to read. Deplorable.

Wow Gil French - saw your gratuitous dig at Catholics. If such ignorant bigotry was directed at, say, African Americans or gays, I wonder if City would have printed your letter?

Re: “Rochester to undertake citywide climate inventory

This is pretty awesome, with how the city is formulating more concrete plans toward a more livable city; especially more awesome if the city rolls forth with such plans and keeps on going forth. I've already transitioned to the world of electric bicycles and electric motorcycles, and have my gasoline automobile parked (a goal: the Tesla III). I love being able to walk & bike around to live out my life instead of being stuck in an anger-inducing automobile. My like-aged friends aren't fond of using cars to live out their lives, as well.

Also, as a college teacher, I very clearly perceive this as being the sort of thing Rochester SHOULD be doing to stay viable as an attractive place to live for our emerging, working generation.

Re: “The stakes are high for scrambling local Dems

Primaries are healthy. It allows the people to choose their party's candidate, not the leaders of districts who do not reflect the make up of the area they claim to represent.
Like the Northwest Democrats.

Re: “Specialists for special education

"Consultant teaching is also more flexible and uses teachers who are specialized in the subject matter in which the student needs help." I call BS to that statement. Special Education teachers are put all over the place, even in subject areas the teacher is not proficient enough to even help students. This district does not take into account teacher strengths (especially Special Education!) and puts us wherever there is "a hole to fill." The HR dept. at Central Office would have been out of a job a long time ago if this were the private sector!!!!

Re: “Rochester to undertake citywide climate inventory

The big energy advantage Rochester has over its suburban neighbors is its relaxed policy on snow and leaf removal. Perhaps this is by default, but the nominal savings in capital, labor and health cost cannot be overstated. City residents get a chance to rake their own leaves and shovel their own walks all the while getting healthier for the exercise it provides them. Meanwhile the environment is cleaner, healthier and less noisy.

Re: “The stakes are high for scrambling local Dems

Breaking News from the Rochester D&C today on Joe Morelle's boss: "New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who has been one of the most powerful men in Albany for more than two decades, was arrested Thursday. FBI spokesman Peter Donald confirmed the 70-year-old Silver was taken into custody around 8 a.m. at FBI headquarters, 26 Federal Plaza, in New York City." Silver was arrested on federal corruption charges for failing to report payments from a New York City law firm.

Re: “The comeback: Molly Clifford's running for City Council

Comeback?? Who knew or even cared she was gone? Do we really need another career politico as a representative? How about just someone who cares about their community?

I don't why Democrats even blink an eye at the Doorley defection....obviously they are better off without an imposter in the ranks.

Re: “The future and the race for the Cuomo Billions

Disabled and elderly people account for most of Rochester's poor. How Is fixing the schools going to help these people? And giving more money in support of generational poverty can only expand the problem.

Re: “The future and the race for the Cuomo Billions

More money will not help city schools unless they hire lots of folks in the city and pay them a good wage. Social engagement and a willingness by the haves to associate their children with the have nots will solve this problem; new schools, new administration or new teachers won't solve this.
