With a dozen songs written by singer/guitarist Mike Joseph, the Beat Beggars play a mix of rowdy, rhythmic, original rock-n-roll, along with
a growing repertoire of songs by the legendary J.J. Cale.
Although Cale, a relatively unknown singer/songwriter, wrote rock classics like "After Midnight" and "They Call Me the Breeze", the Beat Beggars prefer to "beggarize" less popular songs from his thirty-five year career such as "Mama Don't", "Cajun Moon", and "No Time".
The Beat Beggars are blues influenced, but they definitely aren't
mired in twelve-bar blues. High energy, rockin, originals like
"DeMystify" and "The Beat Beggar Beat" include twists and turns
throughout. "Keep On Slidin' has a driving rock-a-billy feel, while
"You're So Unkind" has a Zevon-esque sound.
Dan Tortora plays lead guitar and provides vocals for many of the band's songs. Mike Joseph writes many of the band's songs, and plays rhythm while singing Beat Beggars tunes. His brother, Jeff Joseph plays Bass and sings back up. Keepin the Beat Beggars beat is Mark Steinmetz on drums.
