Artist Biography

Formed officially in the spring of 2007 and hailing from Upstate New York, “FOOTNOTE” has been making its move onto the Rochester music scene and beyond. This electrified contemporary jazz quartet composes and performs music in the spirit of the great modern jazz bands and artists, such as Larry Carlton, Acoustic Alchemy, The Rippingtons, Steely Dan, and many more.

FOOTNOTE’s four talented musicians possess a very eclectic background that chronicles a wide variety of genres including rock, country, jazz, r&b, fusion, progressive, and Motown.

FOOTNOTE embraces this diverse background and incorporates all these styles and influences as they compose, record, and perform their very own high energy sound. Their unique blend is also evident in their fresh perspectives and interpretations of cover material.

Although still young and having performed at numerous Upstate New York festivals, including The 2007 Rochester International Jazz Festival, FOOTNOTE has already established a solid base, upon which they are forging new territory in the true spirit of electrified contemporary jazz.

FOOTNOTE’s long anticipated debut CD titled “COMMON GROUND” has also just been released and is getting rave reviews from the contemporary jazz community and other fans of great music, who love the band's fresh and unique sound.

While some bands use phrases like “versatile” and “eclectic” as a smokescreen, FOOTNOTE's CD introduces a distinctive new sound that seamlessly incorporates the diverse backgrounds of its four members.

Whether it’s sensitive and sophisticated grooves (“Hip to the Z”, “Birds”, “Reprazent”), straight-shooting soul-funk (“Rackrat”), energized power jazz (“Skippin”) or neo-funk/fusion (“On the Verge”, “E-Funk”, “Feedback Loop”), FOOTNOTE presents an unmistakable sound of its own. From drama (“Common Ground” and “Borrowed Time”) to down-home (“Knucklehead”), this great sounding new collection is sure to leave you wanting more.
