Jack Swift is an original jam band that mixes the genres of Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Folk music. Jack Swift was formed at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2007. Improvisation and ballad lyrics is the way of Jack Swift.
The original material is folk-like ballads that have a jazz-rock feel. The signature of Jack Swift can be seen in the long ballads, or "Epics," in which the story's lyrics twist and turn and is interpreted through improvised solos. These Epics usually last 15 to 20 minutes.
The diverse backgrounds of the band members allows for Jack Swift to have a completely original sound. Folk, Rock, Jazz, and Classical musical backgrounds come together to form one band, challenging tradition and popular music.
