When they weren't teetering on the edge of the stage, L.A.'s The Aggrolites stomped around the Water Street stage Wednesday night like a bunch of 6-year-olds imitating Godzilla in the sandbox. The band was here opening for Flogging Molly. Now, FG's crowd is built for speed, but the Aggrolites' set was just as contagious and energetic with its slower, rock-steady groove. The band previewed cuts off its upcoming fourth release, and solidified a fan base in Rochester with its relentless, in-your-face presence. Love that organ, too.
Flogging Molly hit the stage full throttle as if its collective ass was on fire. The band is so intense, it'll give you butterflies. Though considered perhaps a punk outfit, the only difference between FG's take on Celtic music and that of traditionalists is the plug-in factor, which of course leads to the volume factor, which leads to the kids-going-completely-out-of-their-minds factor. As always, it was a great show.
