CONCERT UPDATE: 2009 Party in the Park

Recommend Blog Post
Total Recommendations (1)

Even though new promoters are booking it, the 2009 edition of Party In The Park is shaping up to be demographically similar to what it has always been: plenty of rock, but nothing all that edgy or new. But note that the headliners for July 2, 23, and 30 have yet to be announced, so that could change.

Shows run 5-11 p.m. on Thursdays between June 11 and August 6 at the Riverside Festival Site at Court Street and Exchange Boulevard, across from Blue Cross Arena. Admission is free. For more information call 311.

Thursday, June 11: Dickey Betts and Great Southern

Thursday, June 18: Cracker, Old 97s

Thursday, June 25: Medeski, Martin, Wood

Thursday, July 9: Average White Band

Thursday, July 16: Michael Franti & Spearhead

Thursday, August 6: Gov't Mule

C.W.: Cracker is listed on the official press release sent out by the city. The Old 97's have been rumored as part of the PiP line-up for a while, and may be one of the to-be-released bands. But as far as the city's official press release is concerned, it's Cracker for June 18.

The June 18 show is still listed on www.old97s.com (and has been for more than a month. I'll be bummed if they don't come.

Joe: Just checked the official City of Rochester website, and the Old 97's HAVE been added to the June 18 bill along with Cracker. This is not how it was listed on the official press release last week, but it looks like the band is in fact playing. We've updated the blog post to reflect it.

Man, this is extremely discouraging to know that every other city in New York State is throwing these awesome shows with real LIVE talent, when Albany gets lousy American Idol singers every year. I would kill to see MMW, The AVerage White Band, Michael Franti and Mule at Alive at Five. Instead I'll be stuck watching crappy locals like Sirsy and horrible singers....congrats ROC

If you haven't seen Dickie Betts and Great Southern, give yourself a treat. This is absolutely the best live music you can hear.

I've always thought someone should name a band "Below-Average White Band."
