I've seen Rochester's bluegrass darlings String Theory once or twice since we sat and talked about two years ago. The all-acoustic outfit had just started up its weekly jam session at Johnny's Irish Pub. The band hammered out bluegrass standards as well as folkified takes on contemporary stuff like The Talking Heads. Folks showed up and would slowly ease onto the stage to play for a while. Well, last night, there weren't no easing into anything -- the band and assorted guests and the audience was on fire. I came in for a couple of beers (i.e. watch my wife have a coupla beers) and shoot some pool (i.e. watch my wife kick my ass at pool). I walked straight into the middle of call-and-response mayhem. Everybody was screaming snowflake and bouncing around. What a great nigh of fun and bluegrass. (And yes, she kicked my ass at 8-ball.)
I'm not sure if this is "tongue in cheek", but let's assume so (I'm referring to the "No Wave"...
That drums bass band was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
