Syracuse's Legendary Jones Gang has a new album with arguably one of the best titles ever: "Thank Drugs We're Not On God." The trio, led by ex-Dracula Jones guitarist and namesake Jeff Jones, played a tight, no-frills set in front of a packed Saturday night Bug Jar crowd. At one point in time you might have called this band indie-rock, but the genre has since been Shanghaied by too much introspection, and TLJG seems more of a gut-and-urge outfit to me.
The place was teaming with scenesters, hipsters, low-lifes, high-lifes, saints, sinners, and a ton of roller derby gals, some of them sporting bruises from a match earlier that evening. They were a beautiful dichotomy of tough and sweet, kind of like Bee Eater, the band everyone was out to see. History has been kind to the band, and the music and its members have all seasoned well.
The music was even better than I remembered, the band was tighter than I remembered. A perfect blend of pop and rock with a dash of punk and a splash of loud. What an absolutely fantastic band. Guitar, bass, and drums all played by cats in slick suits, and vocals by a pink-haired chica in fishnet stockings, made it a cool spectacle to behold. This will not be this band's last reunion, mark my words. Hell, I think I smell a comeback.
YOU GUYS RULE! Awesome show, Awesome time, I LOVE seeing you guys get props <3 Stay sexy!
