CONCERT REVIEW: J-San and the Analogue Sons, Bare Bones, Nevergreen at Water Street

Every time I look, Rochester's jam band scene is opening its ever-lovin' arms even further. Not just to welcome new fans, but new band with fresh twists on the hippie groove. One of the biggest components of this embrace is reggae, and Saturday night that's what we got at Water Street Music Hall. It was one big one-drop bill with J-San and the Analogue Sons, Bare Bones, Nevergreen, and Mosaic Foundation. The steam heat of the 350 souls that braved the bitter tundra fogged up my cheaters and kept me warm and happy as I rolled in just in time for the crescendo of Nevergreen's last number. Hear this band's tune "Toast To Ya" just once and you'll be singing it in the shower until your fingertips turn to raisins. The band has a tight, easy groove, and singer Sara Passamonte has a simply gorgeous voice.

Another in the gorgeous voice department is Mosaic Foundation's Laura "Eva Bless" Haykel. But what really sent me about this band is the fact that no matter how slow it grooves, no matter how laid back the jam, the joyous intensity still burns. Take it from me; slow and furious ain't easy, jack.
