I was just a kid when The Majestics were making the scene here in Rochester, and was just making the scene myself when Majestics guitarist Rudy Valentino was rockin' it in Hard Rain. Valentino has been gone for a spell --- first Jamaica, then Europe --- but he made a triumphant return with The Lawnmowers, the current group featuring ex-Majestics front man Ron Stackman, at Abilene Friday night. It was a pleasure to finally dig these two together on stage. The Lawnmowers play spine-bending reggae; salacious and steamy to get folks just fired up enough to rub together what would be their laps if they were sitting down. Valentino brought some added heat to the already perm-straitening humidity in the mucho-crowded joint.
