This album is a little more solidly produced than the band's debut, "Cruel As School Children." But it's also more of a rollercoaster ride. The consistency with Gym Class Heroes comes from front man Travis McCoy's class clown demeanor. Lyrically, he puts together simple, at times clever rhymes, though you don't have to be an English major to pick up on his metaphors. The band has always been associated with putting rock and hip-hop together, but "The Quilt" is almost exclusively hip-hop, with jaunts toward reggae and pop and various guest appearances. These include Busta Rhymes, Estelle, and Daryl Hall, whose on "Live Forever (Fly With Me)" is hands-down the coolest track on the disc And thankfully, there's no Supertramp this time, just the band's solid groove as McCoy intones on personal demons, drunk texting, and love of family.
