Even before you press play, the charmingly homespun graphic design on the album cover of the "Boston Jam Party" tells you exactly what to expect from the music on this disc. A group collaboration that features almost 30 musicians including Max Creek drummer Greg Vasso, the Boston Jam Party stretches out over 70 minutes' worth of originals and covers. While plenty of artists under the jam-band umbrella have pushed the music into exciting new places, this group fulfills virtually every stereotype that exists. The extent to which the "Jam Party" carbon-copies that typical jam feel would be impressive if there weren't countless other people doing it too. A Steely Dan cover is the only curveball besides obligatory re-interpretations of the Dead, Allmans, and Phish. Genre loyalists seeking their familiar fix will be more than happy with this disc. Others are advised to look for more inventive examples.
