With 2005's Jay Bennett-produced "Bastardos!," Blues Traveler proved that it was way more than just a harmless jam vehicle for frontman John Popper's flashy harmonica style. Without Bennett at the wheel, Blues Traveler loses some of the former Wilco guitarist/producer's textural expertise and roots edge, and opts for a more polished approach. At times, though, the band gets even more adventurous under the guidance of studio veteran David Biancho (Tom Petty), incorporating electronic beats and... Bruce Willis? Yes, that's the action actor going off on the six-minute harmonica noise vamp that closes the album. All that aside, Blues Traveler has aged well, expertly laying down songs with tasty chord changes and diverting, climactic bridges, and making it look like it takes no effort at all.
