Otis Redding "Otis Blue: Otis Redding Sings Soul"
Rhino Records

Soul music, when boiled down to its true essence, can be summed up by a single song - Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long," a heart-wrenching, wearied ode to the concept we like to call love. That the song is located on Redding's first masterpiece, 1966's "Otis Blue: Otis Redding
Sings Soul," is perfectly fitting. And now that Rhino Records has re-released the classic album on a two-CD set that features both its stereo and original mono versions, listeners have a chance to experience Redding like they never have before. From the original version of "Respect" to the throbbing cover of the Stones' "Satisfaction" to the hip-shaking, backbone-slipping rave-up of Sam Cooke's "Shake," "Otis Blue" was not just a brilliant soul album, but a musical statement on a par with anything the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and the Beach Boys ever did.
