Social Distortion "Greatest Hits"

Time Bomb Recordings

Creeping up on 30 years of rock 'n' roll, Social Distortion has forged more than enough worthwhile music to fill an album with songs that should have been hits. More than just a splattering of random tunes, this collection chronologically follows the trials and travels of a young punk as he matures and wrestles to find some truth in this weird world. Early tracks like "Mommy's Little Monster" are stunning declarations of teenage rebellion, but soon enough, prison and addiction have slowed the band down a bit. Lugubrious yet beautiful country-punk ballads like "Ball and Chain" fill out the middle of the album and a souped-up cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire" fits right in. The band aged well and later tracks such as "When The Angels Sing" rock all inspirational-like in their search for absolution. One new song, "Far Behind," is included at the end and doesn't disappoint, with a catchy chorus and seething lyrics.
