HIP HOP/BLUES: G Love and Special Sauce (8/10)
By Frank De Blase on Aug. 6th, 2008
Once upon a time, before hip hop became a culture, it was nothing more than a beat. The same could be said for the blues; however, I don't think you'll ever hear Wycliffe sing something like "My Baby Gives Me The Hip Hops Bad" or "Hip Hop In The Night." But seriously, both genres
are cultural phenomenons, and both are revered and reviled. Ride that rail, daddy, and you're playing rock 'n' roll. That's what Philly's G Love does; rapping and casually crooning his own type of blues hop. Despite playing two styles full of bravado and guts, he manages to play music that comes out like summer and smiles. His name is Love after all.
