JAZZ: Bobby Watson Sextet (5/16)
By Ron Netsky on May. 14th, 2008
If the wonderfully catchy tunes on saxophonist Bobby Watson's new album, "From The Heart," remind you of classic Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, it shouldn't be surprising. Watson's career got off to an auspicious start when he was hired as music director for the legendary Blakey band in
the late 1970's. After leaving in the early 80's, Watson played with legends like Max Roach and rising stars like Wynton Marsalis. In recent years he's solidified his reputation - with his arrangements and his alto sax - in groups like Horizon and Live & Learn.
