ROOTS ROCK: Bobby Lee Rodgers and the Codetalkers (7/8)
By Ryan Whirty on Jul. 2nd, 2008
Bobby Lee Rodgers and the Codetalkers take the fundamentals of rock ‘n' roll that were established by the first wave of rockers in the 1950's and embellish them with a dizzying variety of seasonings, from post-bop jazz to classic soul to acoustic wizardry. The music of guitarist and vocalist Rodgers, bassist Andrew Altman, and drummer Mark Raudabaugh is based on exquisite, precise musicianship, but it's expanded by creative improvisation and a desire to take the basic folk form into seemingly limitless new realms of creativity.
Rogers plays Tuesday, July 8, 10 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water St. $8-$10. 325-5600.
