REN SQUARE: Dems want an oversight committee

By Jeremy Moule on February 11, 2008

Democrats on the County Legislature the legislature to establish an eight-member oversight committee for Renaissance Square. They announced their proposal at a new conference this afternoon.

Under the Democrats' plan, Republican and Democratic legislators would appoint four members each to the committee. Democrats said they want the committee to identify funding sources, verify the services that have been provided and money that has been spent for those services, determine the project's staff and payment, determine the status of federal appropriations, and review new contracts for the project.

The Democrats have submitted their proposal to the County Legislature, which would have to be approve it.
