Is it a crime? The authorities say that no laws have been broken. Is it disturbing? Undoubtedly.
The Genesee Valley Girl Lover is a website about attraction to young girls - very young girls. It looks plain and innocuous at first glance; there are no provocative photographs or suggestive illustrations. But the content is revolting.
GVGL's author, the site says, is an adult male living in the Genesee Valley region who is attracted - aesthetically, romantically, and yes, sexually - to "girls from when they learn to walk to the mid-point of Tanner Stage III puberty."
Tanner stages are a way of charting sexual maturation in children, adolescents, and adults. In Stage III, girls' breast buds become larger and pubic-hair growth continues.
The author of the GVGL website goes to great lengths to cast his feelings and urges as just that and nothing that he intends to act upon.
"The GVGL is not a pedophile," the site says.
It is unclear whether the GVGL is a person or group.
The author compares his situation to that encountered by the gay community.
"Pedosexuals who live within society's rules deserve all of the rights afforded our GLBT brothers and sisters," he writes. The GVGL looks forward to the day when GLBT tacks on a ‘p' and stands proudly for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and pedosexual rights."
There doesn't appear to be any definitive definition for the word "pedosexual." The GVGL clearly intends the word to mean the attraction to young girls, while others say it's simply a euphemism for "pedophile."
Former Monroe County Legislator Chris Wilmot discovered the GVGL website by accident.
"I was beyond words," he says. "I called them human filth."
Wilmot reported the site to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The FBI was also notified.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has no plans to investigate the site, says spokesman John Helfer.
"Some people would find it disturbing," he says. "But talking to people who share common feelings is not a crime."
City Newspaper attempted to contact GVGL, but there was no immediate response.

I believe you and the others may have been suckered. I suspect this is a Trojan Horse that has been created by anti-gay, anti-gay marriage person(s) to make everyone believe this would be the next step.

Unfortunately, this story is no hoax, Trojan Horse, or Red Herringâ?¦
On January 12, 2007 the Los Angeles FBI Task Force announced that 2 individuals had been taken into custody and charged with sexual exploitation of children, distribution of child pornography and child molestation. These individuals were members of NAMGLA and subscribers to a message board used by members to post and view child porn internationally.
Organizations like this postulate that their memberâ??s sexual orientation is "pedo-sexual" and advocate the acceptance of pedophilia as a sexual orientation, as opposed to viewing it as a psychological disorder.
That organizations such as NAMGLA or NAMBLA continue to exist is a very troubling.
