POLITICS: County Dems call for ethics chair to step down

County Legislature Democrats want Frank Allkofer to step down as chair of the county's Ethics Committee, all because of Allkofer's connection to Robutrad.

Allkofer, a Republican member of the Gates Town Board, has said that Robutrad employees did work on his house, though he didn't realize that the county was paying them at the same time. Robutrad is a partnership between the county and the building trades unions. It is alleged that, among other things, Robutrad employees worked on private jobs while being paid by the county.

In a letter to Allkofer, Democratic Minority Leader Harry Bronson says, "should allegations of misconduct or wrongdoing detailed in the federal investigation in which you are referenced be brought before the ethics board, it would be inappropriate for you to participate in hearing and considering complaints related to the pending investigation."
