Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and Mayor Robert Duffy were to meet this afternoon to discuss whether they can reach an agreement on the troubled Renaissance Square project, says Duffy spokesman Gary Walker.

Duffy initiated the meeting, which comes a day after a disastrous joint meeting of City Council and Ren Square backers, including Brooks. Duffy and Council members said that they will not sign off on the project unless the theater component is scrapped and the bus station is downsized. But Brooks and Ren Square spokesman Mark Aesch said any change will jeopardize federal funding and effectively kill the project.

City Council approval is needed in order for required properties to be obtained for the project.

Ren Square as proposed is made up of a bus station, theater, and MCC campus.
