Although representatives of the city and Ren Square met this afternoon to discuss the possibility of saving the project, there was no progress.
City Council member Dana Miller, who attended the meeting, said participants "had a good discussion," but, he said, no one changed their position. There was "no progress forward, backward, or otherwise," Miller said after the meeting. "And nobody's planning a trip to Washington."

Move on.....

Ren2, may it NOT rest in peace. Everyone involved needs to think about what went wrong. Citizens never in favor of the project need to ask themselves if they were vocal enough in getting their opinions out there to Maggie. If people feel they were vocal, they need to ask themselves if they feel Maggie listened to them, if not she needs to be gone after the next election cycle.
Also need now are true assessments of what the city and county need to move forward. The grand plans have certainly crashed and burned. What's going on with Paetec? We need to know whether this project will more forward or not. And government involvement in develop should always come in 2nd place to any private development. If Paetec comes to downtown, businesses will need to be ready to react to the extra people working/eating/shopping in the city.
It seems governments want to spend our money on their dreams that have no relationship to our realities. Just because money might be available is not a reason to develop a way to spend it. Baby steps are needed, not a wrecking ball.
Some areas that should be addressed are clean/green transportation options for the future. What can the city/county do to promote commuting by foot or bike? Why not develop an entire transportation plan around the radical thought that people either do care about the environment and their health or may someday be forced to care about it. Why can't Monroe County and the city be a model for the future of mobility? Why not turn a section of the city into a "green zone" where no cars are allowed? Why not promote a health/wellness program that centers around people walking, blading or biking to work. Let's make it safer for children to walk to school instead of riding the buses that pollute so much?
