Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy is hosting a meeting today with local developers, business people, and elected representatives to help plan the future of the Main and Clinton block downtown.
The two-hour gathering takes place among the ruins of the failed Renaissance Square project -- a proposed bus station, theater, and college campus -- that had been slated for that block. Partisan bickering, funding questions, and a lack of community support are the main reasons cited for Ren Square's messy death.
Developers Larry Glazer, Peter Formicola, Anthony DiMarzo, Anthony Costello, Bret Costello, and Jim Costanza were among those invited to the meeting. County Executive Maggie Brooks, Congress member Louise Slaughter, and State Senator Joe Robach sent representatives. State Assembly member Joe Morelle, also the head of the county Democratic committee, was in attendance.
Glazer said that it would take the involvement of multiple companies to successfully develop Main and Clinton.
Duffy said that he did not expect any concrete proposals to come out of the meeting, but that the city would be following up with participants afterward.
