The District Attorney's Office has dropped a felony charge against Andrew Moore, a prominent Republican Party official. But Moore still faces three misdemeanors: two counts of official misconduct and one count of coercion.
The DA's office dropped a charge of rewarding official misconduct, based on a review of the grand jury transcript, says Assistant District Attorney William Gargan. DA Mike Green decided that there wasn't enough information to support the charge.
The charges stem from a 2007 letter which Moore ghost-wrote, as well as the ongoing Robutrad scandal. The letter endorsed Dave Malta's re-election bid to the County Legislature. It was signed by Robutrad worker Chris Gorman, allegedly at the urging of his county supervisor, Bob Morone. Gorman had opposed Malta in a previous election. In media reports, Moore has denied directing Morone to pressure Gorman to sign the letter.
Moore served as executive director of the county GOP. He's suspended from that position, pending the resolution of his case. He's also a member of the Penfield Town Board, and is seeking re-election this November.
