This week's calls to action include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)
Community plan meeting
The city will hold a series of public meetings for its “2010 to 2015 Consolidated Community Development Plan,” which will include a housing analysis and an assessment of homeless needs. Meetings for public input will be held on Tuesday, December 1, at 1099 Jay Street; Wednesday, December 2, at 500 Norton Street; Monday, December 7, at 846 South Clinton Avenue; and Thursday, December 17, at Dr. Samuel McCree Way. All the meetings start at 6 p.m.
Bob and Maggie on the money
The Rochester Downtown Development Corporation and Bank of America will present County Executive Maggie Brooks and Mayor Bob Duffy in a discussion about the economic future of Rochester. It's from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, 123 East Main Street. Tickets: $40 for RDDC members and $45 for non-members. Call 546-6920.
Science and religion discussion
RIT's Caroline Werner Gannett Project "Visionaries in Motion III" will present "The Constant Fire: Beyond the Science vs. Religion Debate" a talk with Adam Frank, UR astrophysicist and author of "Constant Fire," at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, at RIT's Carlson Auditorium.
Wilson IB open house
City schools students who will be entering ninth grade next year are invited to learn about the International Baccalaureate Program at Wilson Magnet High School from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, at Wilson Commencement Academy Campus, 501 Genesee Street.
ARTWalk2 meeting
The city will hold a public meeting on ARTWalk2 at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, at Visual Studies Workshop, 31 Prince Street. There will be display panels showing design plans for reconstruction of University Avenue and North Goodman Street.
Planning, design meeting for Jefferson Avenue
Congress member Louise Slaughter will attend a public planning and design meeting for the Jefferson Avenue (from South Plymouth to West Main) revitalization project. The meeting is at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 30, at Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 9 Shelter Street. More information: Lisa Reyes, (585) 428-6354.
