This week's calls to action include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)

Exploring the role of regional theater

SUNY Brockport's theatre department will present "Theatre, Mission, and Community," a talked with theater teacher and artist Skip Greer, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, at Tower Fine Arts Center Mainstage, 180 Holley Street. The talk is about the role of regional theater in the community, and whether it is to educate and challenge, or to entertain.

Muslim film

Peace Action and Education and Rochester Against War will show producer and director Mara Ahmed's film "The Muslims I Know" at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 11, at Rochester Community TV, 24 Gorham Street.

Immigration rally

A group of human rights advocates, faith organizations, and the Genesee Valley Chapter of the NYCLU will hold a rally to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December 14. Protestors are being asked to meet outside the US Border Patrol Station, 171 Pattonwood Drive. Organizers of the rally seek an end to raids and detentions of the migrant worker population and progressive reform to immigration laws.

Peace works

The Rochester Human Rights Day Committee will hold a "World Peace Celebration" from 5 to 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, at Downtown Presbyterian Church, 121 North Fitzhugh Street. There will be dance performances and music. The event is free and open to the public, but organizers are asking people to bring a dish to pass.

Rally to bring troops home

Peace advocates will hold a "Bring the Troops Home" vigil from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, on the corners of Park Avenue and Culver Road.

Doctors without borders doc

Elizabeth Vargas of ABC News will host "Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders," a one-night live event at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 14. For the first time, Doctors without Borders has permitted a film crew unlimited and uncensored access to its field operations in war-torn Congo and post-war Liberia. The documentary film will be broadcast via satellite from the Skirball Center in New York City to nearly 450 movie theaters across the country. The film will be shown in Rochester at Cinemark-Tinseltown with IMAX at 2291 Buffalo Road, and Regal-Eastview Mall at 70 Eastview Mall Drive in Victor. Tickets: $12.50 to $15.
