Ginsburg talks about constitutional law

The JCC will present a panel discussion with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and NPR's Nina Totenberg as moderator at 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 1200 Edgewood Avenue. Ginsburg joined the Supreme Court in 1993 and has written widely on constitutional law. The event will be telecast via satellite from New York City's 92nd Street Y. Tickets: $8 for JCC members; $10 for non-members. Reservations: 461-2000.

Program on after-school activities

Friends of the Rochester Public Library will present "State of After-School Programming in Rochester" by City Council member Adam McFadden at 12:12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, in the Kate Gleason Auditorium, Central Library, 115 South Avenue.

How to help veterans

MCC's Academy for Veteran's Success will hold "Caring for the War Zone Veteran in the Community Setting," a conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, February 26, for medical, psychiatric, and counseling professionals on how to treat war zone veterans and their families. Topics include: traumatic brain injury, post traumatic stress disorder, suicide, and military sexual trauma. The conference will be held in MCC's Warshof Conference Center in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center, Brighton. Cost: $35 registration before February 12 and $45 after. Registration: 292-2264.

Atkinson to lead economy lecture

Assembly member Joe Morelle and RIT will present speaker Dr. Robert Atkinson, founder and president of the Innovation Technology and Innovation Foundation, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, at RIT's Chester Carlson Center for Imaging Science. Atkinson's talk is the first in a series of lectures on the Rochester economy.

Public meeting on Lynch Woods

The Town of Brighton will hold a public input meeting for the Lynch Woods Park Master Plan at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, at West Brighton Fire Hall, 2695 West Henrietta Road. Residents will have an opportunity to review and comment on plans for the park, which is located off of Crittenden Road.

Call to action on fair trade

Metro Justice will present "Time for a Trade Turnaround," a panel discussion on fair trade at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, at Workers United Hall, 750 East Avenue. Panelists include Congress member Louise Slaughter, Jim Pertolone, president of the Rochester-area labor federation, AFL-CIO; and Brooke Newell, director of New York Citizens Trade.

Capitalism and the environment

RIT will host "After Copenhagen: Capitalism and Environmental Crisis," a discussion with environmental writer Chris Williams at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 29, in the Carlson Auditorium. Cost: $2 for students and $5 for general public.

Affirmative action book discussion

The Moving Beyond Racism Book Group will discuss Ira Katznelson's book "When Affirmative Action was White," at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 1, at Barnes and Noble, Pittsford Plaza.

Inmates in their own words

The Flying Squirrel Community Center will present "Voices from NY Auburn Correctional Facility" from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, at 285 Clarissa Street. The event looks at the poetry of Auburn inmates.
