Medley Centre developer Scott Congel made his deadline.
This afternoon, he wired $332,497.39 to the county's Industrial Development Agency to satisfy a deadline imposed by the town of Irondequoit, East Irondequoit School District, the county, and the IDA. That payment includes the $322,813 due under a payment in lieu of taxes agreement, as well as interest. The money will be split among the partners, per the PILOT agreement.
The payment means that Congel's $260-million project combining retail, housing, a hotel, and movie theater is still alive.
The payment was actually due last month, but Congel failed to make it. The partners told him to pay the money, with interest, by the end of today or they'd terminate the tax agreement, which amounts to tax breaks for the project.
Irondequoit Supervisor Mary Joyce D'Aurizio says she'll be putting pressure on Congel to get financing for the project.
"We're hoping to see progress," she said.
Congel's next PILOT payment is due on January 1, 2011.
