County Executive Maggie Brooks will not run for the 29th Congressional District seat.

Brooks announced her decision in a statement this morning.

"The time may come when we take our message of stable taxes, controlled spending, and job creation to the halls of Congress, but today I couldn't be prouder to continue serving our community as county executive," she said.

That leaves Tom Reed as the sole Republican candidate seeking the seat, which was vacated by Democrat Eric Massa earlier this week. Reed declared his candidacy over the summer and received Brooks' support.

Democrats haven't settled on a candidate for the 29th. State Assembly member David Koon is the only party member to say he might run, if the party wants him to.
