The State Public Service Commission has scheduled an August 3 public hearing on proposed RG&E and NYSEG energy rate increases.

The hearing is 5 to 8 p.m. at City Hall, 30 Church Street, in the City Council chambers.

In the first year of the rate plan, RG&E customers would see a 5 percent electric rate hike and a 3.8 percent natural gas rate increase. That amounts to a $3.70 increase per month on the average electric bill, and a $3.51 per month increase on the average natural gas bill.

More information on the proposal, including second- and third-year rate increases can be found on the Public Service Commission's website.
