Members of the MCC faculty are weighing a vote of "no confidence" in the college's board of trustees. The vote is related to the controversial search for the college's next president. The search is being scrapped because board members failed to reach a consensus on a candidate. Critics have long charged that the search is being hijacked by county Republicans who want to give the job to party loyalist Bill Smith, former majority leader of the Monroe County Legislature.

Ballots will go out to faculty members soon.

The announcement of the no confidence vote came at a faculty meeting tonight (May 20).

MCC's student body is also expected to take a vote of no confidence in the board.

Also, Terri Tugel, president of the Faculty Senate, said she had been told by the SUNY vice chancellor that he would not support a selection of Bill Smith as president. SUNY must confirm whomever the board selects. Due to the late hour, City Newspaper was unable to get a comment from the SUNY offices.
