MCC PRESIDENCY: Interim president named
By Tim Louis Macaluso on Jun. 30th, 2008
Before voting in favor of naming Larry W. Tyree as interim president of Monroe Community College, Trustee John Parrinello, wearing a "Trust me, I'm a politician," T-shirt, gave a speech praising former MCC President Peter Spina. Spina had been County Executive Maggie Brooks' choice for interim president of MCC.
Someone please get Parrinello a reality show.
By a unanimous vote -- minus two members -- the board of trustees of Monroe Community College this morning named Tyree of Sarasota, Florida, as the college's interim president. The vote came after a two-hour executive session. Tyree was interim president of Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas from November 2007 to May 2008. Prior to that, he was interim president for Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.
Tyree was recommended by the SUNY board.
The board of trustees is two members short. Lori Van Dusen resigned earlier this month and Mike Nuccitelli's term ended today.

Parrinello's decision to wear that t-shirt just shows you the level of respect he has for members of the MCC community. A person with class and dignity doesn't behave like that. It's a shame that he's a prominent BOT member. Our college deserves better.

Thank you, Bloggie. I had the same thought. Parrinello obviously thinks the whole thing is a joke. I can assure you that we faculty (and staff and students) are taking this entire situation quite seriously. Parrinello is playing us all for fools. Today he truly revealed himself as the REAL fool.

It was just his juvenile way of becoming the center of attention and taking the spotlight away from Dr. Tyree.

Perhaps Maggie should ask for his resignation as well. What a freakin' joke that man is...

Larry Tyree served as the interim president at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan. and exhibits the finest qualities a college president should embody.
Our campus was in the midst of turmoil. We were betrayed by our leadership and members of our board of trustees faced no confidence votes and censure.
From his interview to the day he left, Tyree stood as a man of integrity and reminded us all of what a true leader can accomplish when he leads with a firm but compassionate hand.
He made me a better student and your community is lucky to have him.
