County Executive Maggie Brooks weighed in today on the MCC presidential search debacle, saying that any board member that cannot put aside his or her personal agenda for the good of the college needs to step down. And she wants former MCC president Peter Spina to return to the job on an interim basis.
Spina contacted her, Brooks said
"I support his return," she said. "He's a person who doesn't have any political agenda. And I have encouraged the board of trustees to embrace this idea."
Calling Spina a healing force that the college needs at this time, Brooks said she has been in contact with both camps on the board.
"Make no mistake, this is not meddling on my part," she said.
Brooks said her phone has been "ringing off the hook" from people who are disturbed by the way the search process unfolded. Calling the situation "madness," Brooks said the board's failure "has left me no choice but to get involved."
