POLITICS: Bye bye Thruway Authority?
By Jeremy Moule on Apr. 30th, 2008
Assemblyman Joe Morelle today introduced legislation to study the abolishing of the state Thruway Authority. The proposal would establish a temporary commission to study the matter. The goal, he said in a press release, is to see if another state agency could operate the roadway.
Morelle's proposal
joins legislation that seeks to study administration of the state's canal system. That proposal, submitted by Senator George Maziarz, calls for a committee to study whether the canal system could be operated by another state agency.

Hooray for Assemblyman Morelle. The Thruway Authority has become a bloated self-serving bureaucracy more concerned about its expanding its own authority and profit than in the welfare of NYS taxpayers. I don't mind repairing hightways. I DO mind paying fat salaries for the Authority and paychecks for its legiions of bureaucats and fare collectors. It's simply not a cost-effective way of maintaining our hwy system. Better that those costs come out of the general tax revenue each year. Thank you, Assemblyman Morelle! The silent majority supports your efforts.
