POLITICS: Reilich tapped for county GOP chair

County Executive Maggie Brooks is recommending Republican State Assembly member Bill Reilich as the next chairman of the county Republican Party.

The appointment isn't a done deal. The committee still has to elect Reilich. But Brooks's recommendation will carry a lot of weight since she's the county's top Republican elected official.

"He understands that we must begin a new era of inclusiveness and collaboration, and set a new tone that will make divisiveness a thing of the past," Brooks said of Reilich in a statement issued today.

Former party chair Steve Minarik resigned on Friday at Brooks's request. She said she wanted a change in leadership style with an emphasis on cooperation and collaboration.

Reilich would hold the post on a part-time basis. A full time executive director would oversee the day-to-day operations of the party. Under Minarik, the chair was a full-time position.

Brooks is also calling for four new party vice chairs to represent a broader cross-section of the party.
