A judge has ruled against a conservative Christian legal group that wants the issue of same-sex marriage left up to the State Legislature, says the Associated Press.
The Alliance Defense Fund, which is based in Arizona, sued the state over an executive order issued by Governor David Paterson. The order directed state departments to extend benefits to same-sex couples who were legally married out-of-state.
The order, and subsequent lawsuit, came on the heels of a Monroe County lawsuit directing New York State to recognize same-sex marriages performed legally out-of-state.
