Only a few months ago, rumors were flying that former Today Show host Katie Couric was about to be cut from her CBS evening news anchor slot due to low ratings.
Couric should be asking for a raise instead.
CBS has taken the one-hour interview with Governor Sarah Palin and edited into a reality show, releasing it in two and three minute segments for the last week.
It's been, in military terms, a droplet bomb. It's been like one of those fireworks that bursts into scads of other explosions with pops of color that sort of drift toward the ground.
The Palin interview has been a regular SNL parody. And for the last two days leading up to the VP debate with Senator Joe Biden, the airwaves are buzzing about the problems with Palin. One more mention of her qualifications as being "the working mother of five" and pardon us if we collectively jump out the nearest window.
When was the last time anyone described a man's qualifications for any position as being a working father of even one child?
But the Couric interview has actually revealed some things about Palin that the public probably didn't anticipate: her lesbian gal pal, for instance.
And it proved that there is good reason for Palin's appeal. She seems like a nice person.
What it also confirmed: she is not ready to be vice president or God forbid, president of the country.
Worse, it really calls into question Senator John McCain's judgment. A moose listening to this woman speak for more than 15 minutes would come to the same conclusion.
Tonight's debate probably won't be a game-changer.
On the other hand, Britney Spears is back and better than ever.
Good luck, Sarah.
