Saul Maneiro has stepped up to run for Jose Cruz's seat in the County Legislature.

The announcement came from Maneiro, a Democrat, and not from the Democratic committee, which suggests that he still has to make it through the committee process. He does have one significant backer so far: Cruz.

Maneiro is a lifelong resident of the city's Northeast side, and works as a program officer at the Rochester Community Foundation. In the past he's run for City Council.

Cruz leaves the Legislature this year because of term limits. He plans to run for a seat on the city School Board.
