The Daily Beast has a ranking of the country's smartest (and dumbest) cities.
Rather than using wealth, standard of living, and cultural offerings, the Beast looked at the education level of the population and the intellectual environment.
Raleigh-Durham landed the number-one slot for its famed Research Triangle, followed by San Francisco and Boston.
Rochester ranked in the middle at 26, with a metro IQ of 106.
The Beast recognized our lovely little city's past - home to Kodak and Xerox.
But what have we done lately?
Deputy Mayor Patricia Malgieri noted that the city is often recognized for its high number of patents. We're an innovative lot, she says.
So much for being the middle child.
Things could always be worse.
Las Vegas and Fresno, California - dustbowls of the southwest - are apparently dumb as dirt, according to the folks at the Beast.
