Top Republicans are busy distancing themselves from some fundraising materials - with good reason.
A 72-page document, found in a hotel where a GOP fundraiser was being held, spells out their strategy for raising money: with small donors, play to the fears of the Obama Administration; with large ones, play to their egotism.
The document, which was given to Politico.com, warns donors of "The Evil Empire." It portrays Nancy Pelosi as Cruella DeVille and Harry Reid as Scooby Doo.
But more troubling is the image of the maniacal white-face image of Barack Obama as the Joker, one of the more sinister characters from Batman. The Barack-Joker image routinely shows up at conservative and Tea Party rallies, and has been widely criticized for its racist overtones.
Republican leaders were dismissive, saying that this sort of thing happens all the time, but even Morning Joe's Joe Scarborough on MSNBC said this morning that it was an embarrassment to the GOP.
It should certainly be enough to convince most Americans who have been waiting for some sign of bipartisanship: it ain't gonna happen.
