The American Institute for Economic Research ranks Rochester as the 8th best mid-size city in the country as an area in which to attend college.
Rochester jumped eight points from last year in AIER's "2010-2011 College Destinations Index" report.
While most reports typically focus on college rankings, academic programs, and tuition costs, the AIER report examines 225 cities and towns for their student-friendly environments.
The rankings are based on 12 criteria, including student concentration, student diversity, arts and leisure, city accessibility, employment, and cost of living.
The report even ranks the criteria "by the numbers."
Rochester received high marks for having a large concentration of students, plenty of arts and leisure activities, and its research capacity.
Entrepreneurial environment and retaining students after graduation, a reference to "brain-drain," were Rochester's low marks.
