It was a single speech, but it was history in the making.
At least that's how I felt watching Hillary Clinton's speech last night, and I bet I'm not alone; especially among people my age who grew up during the Clinton White House.
This is the woman who didn't quite shatter the ultimate glass ceiling but, in her own words, "put 18 million cracks in it." And she was lining up the party - her supporters especially - behind the man who may very well be our first African-American president. It all felt so very significant.
Dressed in her signature pantsuit - though blaze orange this time - she made it clear where she stood. Once the crowd, which wouldn't stop cheering, let her, that is.
"I'm here tonight as a proud mother, as a proud Democrat, as a proud senator from New York, a proud American, and a proud supporter of Barack Obama," Clinton said, opening her speech.
Or, as she put it later in more succinct terms: "Barack Obama is my candidate and he must be our president."
Hillary was in her best form: forceful, passionate, and funny. She even pressed Obama on one of her key issues - health care for all. She rightfully pointed out all the knocks she's taken as she's pushed for it, and that Obama needs to follow through on that work.
Clinton's a fighter, and if she's sincere about her support for Obama, his campaign has a very important asset.
Thanks to Clinton and Obama this is a convention, and election, for the books.
While it may be simplistic to suggest that the problem at East High is the result of the fact...
Before Hillary Clinton can become Secretary of State, the Obama administration will certainly...
Paterson won't do it. Downstate has too much power and influence and too many Dems so they will...
Schumer is a hypocrite. If deficit spending is wrong when Republicans do it, then it's wrong...
I'd like to see more discussion (rationally only) regarding the idea that "gay is a lifestyle"....
