PARKS: Keep walking, biking apart

I have ridden bikes in all sorts of environments for over 60 years, and I am adamantly opposed to allowing any bicycles on the same paths as pedestrians. It is a recipe for disaster. We should follow the example of Holland, the most bicycle-friendly country in world, where I have biked. There, bicycle paths and pedestrian paths are kept strictly separate, both in the country and in the cities.

As a long-time biker - and of course walker - I completely agree. Years ago I would walk to work on a busy path shared between walkers and bikers. It never felt good or safe.

It's hard enough getting bike paths so getting 2 different paths will never happen. It's a ridiculous idea anyway.

Sidewalks, bike paths and roads are all necessary. In 2008, this is a transportation issue, a global warming issues, a gas saving issue. To say this will not or should not happen is insane.
