William Drumright gave us a great political history of Senator Ted Kennedy and gave a challenge to the Democratic Party, especially President Barack Obama, to uphold a principle of Kennedy liberalism in reforming the US health-care system ("Obama Should Follow Kennedy's Example," September 9).
Meanwhile, Congress should move toward public financing of elections, providing the option in every state. In 2006, Ted Kennedy said on NPR that such financing is the only way to let members of Congress get their work done (instead of spending so much time on fundraising).
For President Obama and Congress members who revered Senator Kennedy, these two giant steps would serve well to memorialize him.
