"A Little Too Much Night Music" (September 30) put a wrong cast on my lengthy interview with City about the merits and problems of living near the hot East-Alexander bar scene.

We have never witnessed a person urinating on our property, nor a fight in the parking lot behind our house. Music from bars or loud patrons are sometimes an early a.m. annoyance. Existing ordinances on club music and public behavior should be enforced steadily. An active manager of a nearby office building with hundreds of parking spots has emphasized to me just this past week the ongoing necessity of such enforcement.

We are a retired couple who embrace living here. Only a driving rain prevented me from walking to the new Anchor Inn to enjoy a ballgame and a beer just two nights ago. The night before, I enjoyed a great jazz trio at the Little Café. Just beyond the Little are Matthew's, Spot, and other nightspots and stores. On our corner are Gusto and the Old Toad; around the corner, Hogan's and a potpourri of other eateries. We have walked to 60 locations in the18 months we have lived here.

We know short and long-term tenants, landlords, homeowners, and business owners in our neighborhood. Like others who have rehabbed houses and other buildings, we remain committed to improving life in our eclectic, vibrant neighborhood.
