The campaign for the US Senate seat currently occupied by Kirsten Gillibrand (placed there by our unelected governor) deserves attention, so I appreciate the January 13 article "Ford's Lemon of a Campaign." I hope that City will follow up with an article on Democrat Jonathan Tasini, who announced his campaign for the Senate seat last June.
Tasini, president of the Labor Research Association and former president of the National Writers Union, stands clearly for progressive principles. His website clearly outlines his long-standing commitment to equal rights for all and single-payer health care, and against funding ongoing foreign occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan. His Issues section is far more thoughtful, forthright, and well-written than the cautious, hesitant statements on the website of our current junior senator.
Jonathan Tasini is a courageous, persistent, and articulate advocate for ordinary people. His book the "Audacity of Greed" provides a clear analysis of how our economy got into trouble, and a sane road back to an economy that benefits people first, not huge corporations and their CEO's.
Tasini was in Rochester for an event sponsored by Progressive Democrats of America (Genesee Valley chapter) in December. I look forward to seeing an article in City covering Tasini's campaign for the US Senate seat that our governor handed to a corporate lawyer with her finger to the wind.

I met Tasini when he challenged Hillary and he is a very smart and passionate progressive. He is exactly what NY needs. He is exactly what America needs. He is exactly what President Obama needs.
Obama doesn't need someone like Kirsten Gillibrand who will support whatever the President wants to do. Obama needs someone like Tasini pushing him farther in the right direction. Obama needs someone supporting him who speaks his mind and isn't afraid to offer views differing from Obama's.
