MCC PRESIDENCY: The politics must stop

on April 8, 2008

It saddens me to see politics get in the way and bring down the reputation of a great college. The members of the MCC Board of Trustees have forgotten the promise to search for the best candidates; they're using the job of president as a prize, a reward to a political buddy.

What do teachers tell their students? Work hard, study hard, get a good degree and you'll get ahead in life? Or do we tell them: be a good Republican, pat each other on the back, and you'll get rewarded with a high-paying job, great retirement - a job you don't even have to be qualified to do?

I think the Board needs to be replaced to show that there are some honest people in government. Please bring pressure on the Board to do the right thing. If need be, there will be petitions, protests, and a backlash against the Republican Party in Monroe County.

This kind of thing has got to stop. I and others are going to write letters and fight until the right thing is done.
