The Fornataro family opened Agatina's in 1984, and for more than 20 years they have provided Italian-American and Continental dishes on Rochester's west side. Prices are very reasonable, and they have a wide selection of veal options.

My wife and I went there for Valentine's day. The food was excellent. I'd definitely go there again. What I really liked is that they did not overbook like so many other places I've been to. We were seated right around the time of our reservation and the service was great. Our waiter made some great suggestions also. They were out of a few food items that surprised me however. I'm not sure how they could run out of baked potatoes. No worries though. What we did get was great.

The service was fair. The food however was extremely disappointing. The salad and the bread was the highlight of the meal. Bread was warm and the salad was cool and crisp. Good, but not too impressive of an accomplishment - any restaurant should be able to provide at least that. I had the Chicken French with Artichoke and my friend had the Fettuccine Alfredo. I should have taken a hint of what was to come from the fact that they top the dish with Monterrey Jack Cheese (one of the finer Italian cheeses?). To be fair, the chicken was only slightly overdone. This alone would not warrant a poor review but the sauce was was not even close to what chicken French is supposed to be (wine, lemon, chicken broth, garlic...). Instead it tasted like watered down soy sauce, with an extra pinch of salt. Though the fettuccine was generous the Alfredo sauce was bland and lacking flavor. You could not taste any garlic or Parmesan in the sauce. This might be only be a slight disappointment had it been served in a backwoods roadside diner, but this was an Italian restaurant, where someone - the management, owners or chef - should at least have a clue of what these dishes are supposed to taste like. Unfortunately no one seems to. have any idea.
